Race for the Cure® in Israel!
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the promise Nancy G. Brinker made to her sister Susan G. Komen to do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. That promise launched the global breast cancer movement and this October, Komen will be holding the inaugural Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in Israel.

RFTC IsraelWe invite you to consider being a part of this historic and meaningful journey as we launch the Israel Breast Cancer Collaborative. From October 25-29, 2010 Komen for the Cure will bring together advocates, survivors and supporters from every corner of the globe.

On October 28, together, we will walk just outside the Old City walls and make history as thousands of survivors and supporters unite in the first Susan G. Komen Israel Race for the Cure®. We will engage with grantees that Komen has funded for many years as well as high-ranking Israeli diplomats to understand the burden of cancer in Israeli life. Komen Delegates will also enjoy exclusive opportunities to visit the many wonders of this ancient city.

Details about the variety of pricing, itinerary and experiences are available through the Komen headquarters website at www.komen.org/israel. As sustainability is critical to our success, included in each Delegation package is a donation to support the global mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Israel outreach efforts and 25 percent will go to support breast cancer efforts in Tarrant County.

If you are interested in being a part of this historic Mission Delegation, please go to www.komen.org/israel to learn more or register directly to be a Delegate.

We hope you will join Susan G. Komen for the Cure as we continue building a global community committed to ending breast cancer forever!

Grantee Spotlight
JPS LogoJPS Health Network/Partners Together for Health is one of our 2010 grant recipients. JPS has helped to ensure care for some women who otherwise could not received assistance despite their diagnosis. In addition, JPS developed a second grant program this year, targeting young women needing breast health education.

“Bridging The Gap Between Diagnosis and Cure” at the JPS Center For Cancer Care provides treatment for women who all have two things in common: breast cancer and too few resources. They fall outside the circle of eligibility for financial sponsorship through the usual outlets. Komen for the Cure Tarrant County and JPS Health Network work together to ensure these women receive treatment without taking their families into bankruptcy.

The breast health program at JPS Health Network sponsored by a grant from Komen for the Cure Tarrant County provides a myriad of outreach services that includes breast health education in all of the childbirth/breast feeding classes, specific classes for breast health, and a monthly “basics” class for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients accessing services at JPS Health Network.

Hats off to JPS for their innovative and important grant programs!

Volunteer Spotlight
Volunteer Spotlight Henderson Amos 100Volunteering is a family affair for many of our Komen activists. That is certainly the case for Lona Henderson and her parents, Diana and Michael Amos. Their family has participated at Komen Tarrant County events in many capacities. Lona has been a member of the Race for the Cure® Committee for several years. Diana and Michael have also volunteered at the Race and their family worked together as a team at the Crowne Plaza Colonial Golf Tournament Pink Out. Lona and Diana participate at area health fairs, providing education for attendees. Since Diana is bilingual, she has been our representative at several schools where bilingual speakers have been requested. We are very proud of the work these Komen activists do for our Affiliate and our community. It is because of volunteers like them that we continue to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer.

3rd Party Event Spotlight
Kaylee CookA special thank you to Kaylee Cook for her donation of $283! For her 9th birthday, Kaylee asked for donations for Komen Tarrant County instead of gifts. Her mother Karrie was diagonosed with breast cancer in February 2009, and today is doing great.

2010 Colonial Balloon ReleaseThe 2010 Pink Out at Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial was a huge success this year! Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who worked throughout the day and to the survivors who helped with the balloon release. We would also like to thank Peter Ripa at Colonial for making sure that every detail of the day's event went smoothly.

2010 Pink Out TX OncologyA special note of thanks to Texas Oncology for their support of the Walk for the Cure pedometer program. All total, $41,044.56 was raised that day!
