Komen, the world's largest breast cancer organization, is ranked top cancer organization

We just have to share some great news with you. We are so proud that Guidestar, an independent charity evaluator, has named Komen as the cancer nonprofit making the biggest impact on cancer advocacy and outreach. This number 1 ranking from GuideStar's Philanthropedia arm is based on the assessment of 48 experts from 25 nonprofits, universities and businesses, who reviewed 73 cancer nonprofits and identified the 16 top cancer organizations.

In addition, for the fifth year in a row, Komen, the world's largest breast cancer organization, earned a top four-star ranking from independent evaluator Charity Navigator. This year, the Harris Interactive EquiTrend study ranked Komen among the top two national nonprofits in terms of brand equity and as a charity people are most likely to donate to.

We want to point out that these recognitions would not be possible without YOU, our fabulous army of survivors, donors and volunteers,  leading the grassroots efforts to help Komen realize its vision of a world without breast cancer. Along with us, we hope you take pride in the fact that the dollars you donate to Komen are used for the mission and are spent in the way you intend for them to be. Also, the time you spend volunteering for Komen is time well spent. As always, we want to point to the fact that 75% of the money raised by Komen Greater Fort Worth remains in our local community to help people who need help TODAY. In planning for a FUTURE world without breast cancer, 25% of the money goes directly to fund research to find the cures.

Thank you for being with us in this fight against breast cancer.

Ann Greenhill - Executive Director

Grantee Spotlight
Catholic CharitiesThe St. Joseph Health Care Trust Breast Cancer Outreach Program, managed by Catholic Charities Diocese of Fort Worth, expands breast health outreach and awareness in the Greater Fort Worth service area. Trained health care teams reach medically uninsured women within the parishes of our four county service area. By educating women about breast health and coordinating mammogram screenings, provided without cost through collaboration with the Harris Methodist Mobile Mammography unit, more women receive necessary services. The program focuses on Hispanic, Asian and African American communities and also provides case navigation for clients who test positive for breast cancer.

Through their outreach efforts, St. Joseph‘s Health Care Trust coordinates breast health education for those needing this important service. We are proud of our continued collaboration with Catholic Charities.

Volunteer Spotlight
Greater Fort Worth VolunteerTraining was held last month at our offices for ten new “Komen Educators” who will lead our Speaker’s Bureau. These amazing advocates have been involved with the Greater Fort Worth Affiliate in other capacities and bring great expertise about our cause. Their understanding of the Komen Mission and knowledge about our Affiliate will make an impact on those they meet. Please contact the Komen office to schedule a Komen Educator for your church, civic organization, business, or other event. We look forward to the opportunity to share our story with others.

2011 Southlake Volleyball Pink Out

We would like to say a special thanks to The Stitch Niche in Arlington. One of their favorite customers, Kathy Barnett, passed away of breast cancer in May of this year. Kathy had requested that her sewing supplies be sold to other Stitch Niche customers and that the proceeds be donated to Komen Greater Fort Worth. In one short weekend, and with an extensive inventory, over $5,000 was raised!
