Komen Spotlight "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we do." - Confucius
Who did you think of just then when you read that quote? Your mother? Your sister? Your daughter? Your friend?
No matter what, your local Komen affiliate will continue to fund worthy programs here at home to educate, screen and treat the women and men who are uninsured or underinsured, and help breast cancer patients navigate the complex health care system. We will continue to fund research that will save lives and help us eradicate breast cancer.

Grantee Spotlight
The Greater Fort Worth Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure hosted the 4th Annual Anamaria Diaz Shaw Komen Grants Award Breakfast on January 12th at Ridglea Country Club. Our Affiliate Founder, Joan Katz, was the keynote speaker and provided the history of the Affiliate from its inception. She described the evolution of the grants process, the programs that have been funded over the past 20 years and the incredible impact made by the volunteers who have supported our efforts in working as a community to provide breast health awareness and needed services to those in our Affiliate area. Joan reminded everyone of the importance of joining us at the 20th Anniversary Race for the Cure on April 14, 2012. Laura Mowrey, Senior Affiliate Relationship Manager at Komen Headquarters was a guest.
We are proud to announce that 12 programs from 11 local organizations received $900,000 in grants. Representatives from each grantee organization attended the announcement and checks were presented to fund the first half of each project. The grants will assist uninsured and underinsured women and men in the Greater Fort Worth Affiliate service area, which includes Tarrant, Parker, Johnson and Hood counties, funding vital breast cancer health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs.

Volunteer Spotlight We have many incredible volunteers who represent Komen Greater Fort Worth at health fairs and special events throughout the year. Some volunteer often and others manage to give their valuable time to the Affiliate once or twice a year. The Affiliate counts on each volunteer advocate to get the Komen message to the community and we are blessed to have so many amazing women and men join the fight to find a cure. As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary this year and look forward to the 20th Race for the Cure on April 14th, the impact of our volunteers is clear. We would not exist without the grassroots support of the volunteers who work diligently for the Greater Fort Worth Affiliate. In the last week of January, 44 volunteers managed our education table and Survivor Reception at the Stock Show Goes Pink and volunteered for the Concert for the Cure at Bass Hall. These amazing Komen advocates are invaluable and much appreciated! Thank you to each of you who offer your time to benefit our Affiliate.
