Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Honored as Top Nonprofit
The 2010 rankings of non-profit organizations from global market research firm Harris Interactive last week ranked Komen for the Cure as the number one most valuable non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate to. Komen also ranked second among the most trusted non-profit organizations in America (behind St. Jude Research Hospital). The rankings examined 1,151 organizations.

"We are enormously humbled to be recognized in this way by the public that we serve," said Komen founder and CEO, Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker. "This validation redoubles our resolve to our promise to end breast cancer through science, education, advocacy and relevant support programs all around the world."

Harris Interactive Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Justin Greeves, said of the top-performing non-profits: "They are working to solve many of society's most complex and relevant problems in efficient, new, and innovative ways and have achieved personal relevance in many of our lives - that is why they are at the top."

Volunteer Spotlight
Rex LathenRex Lathen epitomizes our wonderful Komen Tarrant County volunteers. He has served on the Race for the Cure committee since 2008 as the coordinator for Race day parking and manages the volunteers responsible for traffic control at the Race. Volunteering in honor of his wife Judy has become a passion for Rex. He owns Williams Signs, a Fort Worth company that specializes in banners, signs, vehicle graphics, and vinyl signs.

Rex constantly surprises us with his innovative ideas for signs and banners to use at the Race and for our events throughout the year. He provided us with signs for the Frogs for the Cure game at TCU, magnets for our cars advertising the Race for the Cure, the large exhibit check announcing our 2010 Grant funding and more. We can always count on Rex to volunteer his time and to encourage his employees to contribute their time to our Affiliate as well. Thank you, Rex, for everything you do for Komen Tarrant County!

Grantee Spotlight
The Bridge Breast NetworkThe Bridge Breast Network is a special partner with Komen Tarrant County. As one of our grantees, The Bridge assists those going through breast cancer by providing medical referrals, medical case management, and access to diagnostic and treatment services. The grant funding for low income, uninsured and underinsured women and men in Tarrant County provides access to breast health services and diagnostic services that would not be available to them otherwise.

The Bridge has received grants from all three metroplex Komen Affiliates because of the outstanding services they provide in North Texas. The Bridge recently awarded each affiliate their 2010 Advocacy Award and the Arch Society Award at the 2010 Bridge Builders Society Breakfast. We are pleased to recognize The Bridge for their work.
