Our Affiliate was chartered in July of 1992 by Rozanne Rosenthal, in honor of her close friend and three-time breast cancer survivor, Joan Katz. Rozanne and Joan embraced the Komen promises which, with your help, we have worked hard to keep for the past 20 years. In case you haven't heard, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year! We are planning several fun and special events and we need your help to make this a memorable year. On Tuesday, January 24, The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo goes PINK. Watch for more information in future emails. In recognition of that, please mark your calendars for Saturday, January 28, for our special anniversary LeAnn Rimes concert we are co-hosting with the Fort Worth Symphony at Bass Performance Hall.
Register now for the 20th Komen Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure® which is Saturday, April 14, at Ridgmar Mall. Form a team and start fundraising now because we need YOU…your spirit, your participation and your support. At Komen Greater Fort Worth, if we ever feel discouraged, the best news of all is knowing that you are with us in this fight to end breast cancer. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at all of these events.

Grantee Spotlight
The Muslim Community Center for Human Services (MCCHS) provides outreach services for breast cancer awareness to immigrant populations in the Komen Greater Fort Worth service area through education seminars and coordination of mammogram screenings. The MCCHS education program targets the South East Asian, Middle Eastern and African immigrant community, a special-needs population of women who may experience barriers due to limited funds, no health insurance, cultural isolation and language differences.
MCCHS provides targeted services addressing the barriers to dispel myths about breast cancer, self-exams, and mammograms. Through community education events conducted in Arabic, Urdu and English and coordination of screening mammograms, MCCHS assists women who may have no other access to care.
MCCHS collaborates with other Komen Greater Fort Worth grantees to ensure that their clientele receives important services and information. We appreciate the work of their staff and are proud to have them as a 2011 Grantee.

Volunteer Spotlight
The volunteer spotlight shines this month on a husband and wife who have been advocates and activists with our Affiliate for the past four years. We first encountered Kelli and Ted Trostel at the 2007 Frogs for the Cure survivor party where Kelli won the grand prize - a motorized scooter. She decided immediately that she wanted to give back to the Affiliate whenever possible.
Kelli and Ted have volunteered at health fairs, golf tournaments, Wacoal Fit for the Cure, and most recently at Frogs for the Cure. Ted is “Komenized”, as is their son who wears pink in support of his mother and our important cause.
We appreciate the gift of volunteering from this amazing couple. Thank you for being a great example of dedicated Komen advocates!

3rd Party Event Spotlight The Arlington High School Colt Kickers Band sported pink gloves as they Marched for a Cure during their performance against Crowley High School. They raised over $300 and are looking forward to raising more next year. Thanks so much Colt Kickers! Don't you love their pink gloves?
A special thank you goes out to West Elementary students and staff in the White Settlement ISD for their on-campus Walk for a Cure event. Students and Staff paid $1 to walk the perimeter of the school grounds. The entire $310 they raised was donated to Komen Greater Fort Worth! The kids and teachers celebrated their accomplishment in a pep rally last Friday. Thank you West Elementary!
