What would the breast cancer world look like without Susan G. Komen? Personally, I can't even imagine what breast cancer treatment would be like without all the research and major advances Komen has supported. Did you know that Komen is the largest nongovernmental funder of breast cancer research IN THE WORLD? If you were diagnosed with breast cancer after 1982, it is very likely that you have benefited from Komen funded research.
One of our main objectives is not only to support the research to find the cures, but to make an impact now. There are many breast cancer survivors who are uninsured or underinsured and Komen helps these people in their local communities. That's why since Komen Greater Fort Worth was started in 1992, approximately $17 million has been granted locally to pay for mammograms, treatment, education and treatment support for those who can't afford it.
Komen has made promises... a promise to fight this disease a promise to teach more people with early detection methods and more effective treatments a promise to fund groundbreaking research and discover the cures.
We need your help to keep these promises. We need your voice, your spirit, your financial support. Ask yourself...What can I do today to help end breast cancer? At the end of the day, ask...What have I done? Have I done enough?
-Ann Greenhill, Executive Director

20th Anniversary Spotlight In honor of our 20th Anniversary, Komen is counting some of our major acheivements. We cannot continue without your help and support.

Grantee Spotlight
Bridge of Blessings provides temporary financial assistance to qualified individuals in Tarrant, Parker, Johnson and Hood counties who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Based on an assessment of need, those who are in active cancer treatment may receive help with daily living expenses including payment for rent/mortgage, utility bills, food, transportation and child care expenses. The amount of financial assistance is determined by members of the Bridge of Blessings volunteer board. This financial assistance helps to reduce the financial barriers that may force patients to delay or not to seek care. The ultimate goal of Bridge of Blessings is to enable patients to become healthier and to be more independent. Through the dedication of Patricia Mello, the founder and president, and the wonderful volunteer board, Bridge of Blessings impacts the lives of many in the Greater Fort Worth service area as well as 42 other surrounding counties. We are proud to have Bridge of Blessings as one of our 2011 Komen Greater Fort Worth grantees.
Volunteer Spotlight
Our In the Pink Survivor Luncheon provided an opportunity for many of our advocates to volunteer. Thirty women worked to put together gift bags for the 850 attendees, helped with registration and volunteered at the silent auction tables. A wonderful event was made even more special by the contribution of time and energy for the cause made by each of our incredible advocates. Komen Greater Fort Worth is fortunate to have hundreds of advocates who volunteer with us throughout the year as the need arises. When asked, they are always ready to provide support and this summer proved no exception for our amazing group. We are grateful to everyone who volunteers with our Affiliate!
